How long have you been CrossFitting? A little over a year
What keeps you coming back? The coaches and all the incredible members of Aestus.
How did you ﬁnd CrossFit? My husband Jon was a member.
How did you end up at CrossFit Aestus? Coach Sam and Melissa were neighbors of ours in our old Neighborhood. Coach Sam had some sort of crazy garage training going and I figured if he could get a bunch of people to keep coming back to his garage to work out in 100 degree heat, he must be doing something right. J
What is your athletic background? I have absolutely zero. I was the girl who skipped school on the 600 meter run day. Not kidding.
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle and level of ﬁtness? Oh wow… There are so many things that have changed. I look at fitness in a completely different light! Not gonna lie… when I first looked into CrossFit I was completely intimidated. I never thought I was capable of doing half the things that I’ve been able to achieve this year. I still have a long way to go but I actually look forward to the challenges now. My only regret is that I didn’t start this sooner.
What is the One Thing you have done here that you never thought you could do? Compete in the open. The week I joined Aestus a year ago was when the 2016 Open was going on. I watched everyone thinking there is no way in HELL I’m doing that! Flash forward one year and there I was; I scaled it but nevertheless, it felt great!
What motivates/inspires you? All the awesome athletes at Aestus. Seeing them accomplish things you know that they’ve been trying to do for so long is so motivating.
What is your proudest CrossFit achievement? Completing Murph.
Name one goal/personal achievement that you would like to achieve through CrossFit. One single, stinkin’ pull up!
What goals have you achieved in CrossFit? Getting any sort of depth in my squat. I had some serious mobility issues when starting and I’m finally getting my form in check and working on adding more weight.
Hobbies/interests outside of CrossFit? Oddly enough, running! I love to just crank up my 80’s jams, find a nice quiet road and go.
Tell me about your diet: I was on an extremely low carb diet for about a year and although it worked well to drop some weight, I had very low energy and eventually stalled. I’ve since started a flexible dieting plan after seeing some of the members at Aestus have incredible results. To date, I’ve lost a total of 45lbs and am in better shape than I’ve been in my life. I haven’t reached my goal yet but for the first time in my life I actually know that It’s 100% attainable.
Any advice for new members? Put aside any hesitations you may have and just try a class. You’ll be hooked, I promise! J
