Which class do you usually attend? Whichever one my schedule and sleep allow me to attend.
Favorite WOD: I don’t think I have one.
Favorite Lift: Back squat or deadlift.
How long have you been CrossFitting? I am just about to hit my one year mark in May.
What keeps you coming back? The people – hands down and without question. Everyone thinks their box is the best but I am the only one who is correct when I say it.
How did you ﬁnd CrossFit? Judy and Tony (Benitez).
How did you end up at CrossFit Aestus? Judy and Tony (Benitez) – they were bragging on you all starting on their day one.
What is your athletic background? A little of everything. A lot of nothing. I like to be active but I have never done anything structured.
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle and level of ﬁtness? I was always big on cardio and had always heard weights were important but I never knew what to do with them on my own. I had preconceived notions of what Crossfit was and never thought I could do enough to keep up. The people at Aestus aren’t anything like I thought they would be. I have truly never met a more supportive bunch of people in my life. They cheer you on and for no reason other than they thrive on the success of others in their group. I have been amazed at what I have been able to accomplish by support of those around me as much as on my own ability and determination not to fail.
What is the One Thing you have done here that you never thought you could do?
Pretty much everything and that isn’t even an exaggeration. I still have to modify most workouts but I’m still regularly amazed I haven’t killed myself yet. Every day it gets easier and I look forward to accomplishments as big or as small as they can be.
What motivates/inspires you? The people/environment. Even with having to modify most things I do, I have never felt less than or self-conscious during any wod. Again, the support of those around me has been amazing.
What is your proudest CrossFit achievement? Not dying. Not passing out. Not vomiting. Not injuring myself. Not embarrassing myself too badly. The usuals…
Name one goal/personal achievement that you would like to achieve through CrossFit .
I would eventually like to look like my vision of what a crossfit athlete should look like. I think it would also be great to be fit enough to compete sometime in the future but first I have to be able to complete WODs completely unmodified…
What goals have you achieved in CrossFit? Finding a program and sticking with it and still enjoying it a year later….
Hobbies/interests outside of CrossFit? Ugh. I really need to get some hobbies. Between work, walking the dogs, sleeping, errands, meal prepping, and crossfit – I have literally described to you my whole life.
Tell me about your diet: Through the encouragement of Coach Sam and Jen I have recently completed my first round with the StrongerU program. I have enrolled in another 12 weeks to begin immediately afterwards. It is a macro based program that I have been able to have some success with so far and hope to continue to do so.
Any advice for new members? Everyday gets easier. Don’t give up. You will continue to progress without even noticing until one day you are doing things you didn’t think possible. Lastly, pay the support forward when someone newer than you starts their journey.
Coaches thoughts: I don’t now if anyone in here works harder than Mikaela. She’s dedicated. Every day is truly a 100% effort. Along the way she’s funny, caring and has a great way of lightening the mood and making the work fun. She’s a great inspiration and cool person to have as part of our family.
